50 Year Anniversary of Public Transit

(COLUMBIA, MO) -

The City of Columbia is celebrating their 50 Year Anniversary of publicly owned bus service and will be hosting an event for the public and press Friday, August 21st at 1:30pm at the Wabash Station in downtown Columbia to mark the occasion. The event will consist of numerous giveaways, exciting announcements, and a short program about the rich history of our local transit system as well as insight into what our transportation might look like for the next 50 years. The Columbia Chamber of Commerce will be on hand to do a ribbon cutting at 2:00pm to mark the occasion.

Drew Brooks, the City's Multi-Modal Manager says "We are all honored to have played a part in the 50 year history of public transportation in Columbia, and we're excited to be able to offer such an important service to our community. Transportation will continue to change over the years as we're seeing already with compressed natural gas and electric vehicles, and we're looking forward to another 50 years of helping customers get to work, school, and around town every day."

Friday will also kick off over a month of free rides on COMO Connect and special bus stop promotions, as the City shows their appreciation to loyal customers and encourages other community members to try public transportation for the first time. The free service will last from August 21st through the end of September and includes all COMO Connect fixed bus routes around town. Bus stop promotions will include many surprise giveaways and entertainment for customers at 50 various bus stops along the city's 11 routes.

Free trip planning is available by calling COMO Connect customer service at 573-874-7282, or by email at [email protected]create new email.
