Work has began on the College Avenue and Broadway Pedestrian Signal Safety Enhancements. Reinhold Electric was awarded the bid to install visible countdown timers (Ped heads) on each corner, and to install audible pedestrian crossing devices. Those devices include an audible signal to direct sight impaired pedestrian to the "push to cross" signal button(s), and audible signals to alert sight impaired pedestrians as to when it is safe to cross.
Other work will include sidewalk and crosswalk modifications to meet current ADA requirements.
The cost of the project is $70,000 funded by the voter approved 2005 capital improvement sales tax.
Work is scheduled to be complete by August 7. Work schedules and completion date are weather dependent.
Motorist and non-motorized transportation users should use caution in the work zone, watch for occasional lane restrictions and use alternate routes when available.
