8th and Walnut Parking Plaza to close for major maintenance - July 9 - 14

(COLUMBIA, MO) -

The parking plaza at 8th and Walnut will be closed to all vehicles starting at 6:00 pm on Thursday, July 9 and is scheduled to reopen to all vehicles at 6:00 am on Tuesday, July 14 while major maintenance is performed.

Maintenance will include a "deep cleaning" of the structure; moving ADA parking spaces closer to elevator landings; painting stairwells; new parking stall markings, and other maintenance work as required and time permits.

"It is important to maintain our parking structures used by many people who work and visit the downtown area.", said Scott Bitterman, Street Engineering Manager at Columbia Public Works. "The parking garages also represent a major investment in parking infrastructure and we want to ensure they remain in good repair and are inviting to residents and guests."

While the 8th and Walnut Parking Plaza is closed, the following information pertains to those who have reserved spaces, permits, juror parking, and hourly parking:

  • Reserved space holders will have temporary reserve spaces in the 5th and Walnut Parking Garage. Each reserved space holder will be notified where to park the 5th and Walnut Garage before the closure date.
  • Permit space holders may park in any hourly or permit space at the 5th and Walnut Parking Garage.
  • Jurors may park in the Armory Parking lot at the corner of 8th and Ash St.
  • Hourly parking will not be available in the 5th and Walnut garage while the 8th and Walnut Parking Plaza is closed for maintenance. Those who use hourly parking in the 5th and Walnut Parking Garage should use metered spaces in other garages or metered spaces on the street.

We understand this will create some temporary inconveniences for our customers. We appreciate their understanding while we maintain Columbia infrastructure.

Questions regarding parking may be directed to 573-874-7674.
