Columbia Public Works response to expected winter weather

(COLUMBIA, MO) -

Columbia Public Works crews reported at 2:00 pm today to prepare for the expected snow fall later this evening through Monday afternoon.

Crews will add some additional pre-treat materials to bridge decks and problem areas this afternoon. Many if not most priority roads still have salt on them from last weeks snowfall.

Crews will focus on the 200 miles of 1st and 2nd priority routes once snow begins. We will continue to work on those roads until they are passable. The snowfall is forecast to occur over a long period of time, so work on priority routes is expected to continue while snow is falling.

Should Columbia recieve 4 or more inches of snow, we will treat residential streets after the priority routes are completed. We will issue updates when (if) that occurs.

Because the snow totals are forecast to exceed two inches we do encourage vehicle owners with vehicles parked on 1st or 2nd priority roads to move those vehicles from the street before the snow reaches two inches in depth. Failure to do so will likely result in a $100 citation and possibly towing at the owners expense. Removing vehicles from priority snow routes helps us treat those routes quicker - allowing us to move into residential areas sooner if conditions warrant. A map of priority streets is available on the CoMoSnow.com site.

Updates on our social media sites as well as CoMoSnow.com throughout the winter weather event.
