DOMESTIC ASSAULT/EXPLOSIVE DEVICE ON KEENE STREET

(COLUMBIA, MO) -

Domestic Assault investigation reveals an explosive device located in the victims vehicle.  Boone County Bomb Technicians were activated to safely remove the device.

On 11/18/14 at approximately 4:45 P.M. Columbia Police Officers were dispatched to 1 Keene Street, the Columbia Orthopedic Group, in reference to a disturbance.  Investigation revealed that a domestic assault occurred involving a husband and wife.  When officers arrived the suspect and victim were not present.

The suspect and victim left in a vehicle and were gone for a period of time.  The victim returned to 1 Keene Street, in the vehicle, without the suspect.  The victim made contact with officers at that time.  Part of the assault occurred inside the victim's vehicle.  The victim gave consent for officers to search the vehicle.

During the search, officers located an improvised explosive device in the trunk.  The Columbia Police Department's Criminal Investigations Division responded along with Boone County Bomb Technicians and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The explosive device was removed from the trunk using robotic equipment and eventually detonated in a controlled manner.

The suspect was eventually located and is currently in a secure facility.  Arrest is pending and the investigation is ongoing.  Additional information will be provided via press release as it becomes available.  No further information is available at this time.
