Beginning Wednesday, October 22 at 7:00 a.m., a contractor for Columbia Water and Light will start relocating a waterline on 7th Street. During initial installation of the storm drainage system for the 8th Street Apartments it was found that a City of Columbia waterline needed to be relocated. Currently the waterline and proposed storm drainage line are at the same elevation in the same location. In order to complete the storm sewer the waterline must be relocated to continue the storm drainage system installation. The waterline has also had a high incidence of breaks which makes it a candidate for replacement. The unanticipated waterline replacement work will result in continued lane shifts on 7th Street between Cherry Street and Locust Street and Locust Street between 7 Street and 8th Street. The work is anticipated to be completed and street fully reopened by Thursday, November 20, by 7:00 p.m.
Motorists and non-motorized transportation users are urged to exercise extreme caution when in the work zone and use an alternate route whenever possible.
