Two Separate Incidents Overnight

(COLUMBIA, MO) -

TWO SEPARATE INCIDENTS OVERNIGHT

On 7/4/14 at 7:16 P.M., officers were dispatched to 100 East Forest Avenue, Downtown Optimist Park in reference to shots fired. Witnesses reported there were several people sitting under the pavilion in the middle of the park when two subjects near the southeast access to the park from the alleyway began shooting at the subjects under the pavilion. Officers located 29 shell casings at the scene. There were no reports of anyone injured.

At approximately 9:00 P.M., Officers were notified by a local hospital that a male gunshot victim had been brought to the hospital by personal vehicle. Officers arrived at the hospital to find a male victim with non-life threatening injuries who was a victim from the shots fired at the Downtown Optimist Park earlier in the evening. The only suspect information at this time is two black males. There have been no arrests made and the investigation is ongoing.

 On 7/5/14 at 4:24 A.M., officers were dispatched to the 5300 block of Currituck Drive in reference to shots fired. Officers contacted a witness who observed a black male wearing a loose fitting shirt fire several rounds towards a residence. The witness observed the suspect running northbound on Currituck from the area. Officers located seven shell casings at the scene. There was no one injured and the investigation is ongoing.  The residence was damaged by gunfire.  

Officers have no information at this time that these two incidents are related.
