Columbia's Public Transit Advisory Commission staying in touch with transit customers

(COLUMBIA, MO) -

As the City prepares to launch a brand new bus system in just a few short months, Columbia's Public Transit Advisory Commission (PTAC) is literally getting on board to help the city prepare for the change. The Commission has scheduled times in the next week for commission members to ride the current Columbia Transit 102 and 101 routes so that they can experience the bus system together, including trying out the wheelchair and bicycle facilities on the bus. Although many commissioners already use Columbia Transit and Para-Transit regularly and have enjoyed a variety of public transportation options in other cities, the group says that riding the bus together with customers will be a great opportunity to keep a close eye on transit issues affecting the City. PTAC encourages the public to come out and join them on the scheduled rides as well.

The Commission has scheduled the rides for Saturday April 19th on the Blue 102 East Loop departing from Wabash Station at 5:25pm, and on Wednesday April 23rd on the Orange 101 South Loop departing from Wabash Station at 9:25am. The scheduled rides will not affect normal service on these routes and customers can ride as usual.

In anticipation of the upcoming launch of the COMO Connect route changes this fall, PTAC plans to schedule additional group rides for its commissioners after the changeover to monitor the effects the new system will have on current customers and the community.

PTAC advises City staff and Council with regard to transit policy and safety matters concerning transit issues affecting the City. Commissioners include university students, individuals with disabilities, and people with bike/ped interests.
