Columbia Police Officers Arrest Two Armed Suspects While Conducting Proactive Patrols

On 04-10-14, at 12:47 A.M., Columbia Police officers were conducting proactive patrol in the Rice Road and Ballenger Lane area.  Officers spotted two men walking in the middle of the road on Mckee Street near Orchard Lane obstructing the flow of normal traffic.  The two men were detained to investigate the violation.  In the course of the investigation both men were found to be carrying loaded concealed handguns in violation of the law.  One of the men was found to be in possession of a controlled substance.

Arrested were Chad Lee Thomas, 24, and Dushane Kumaine Griffith, 23, both of Columbia.  Thomas was arrested for Pedestrians Walking in the Roadway, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and Possession of a Weapon by a Felon, total bond amount $9,000.00.  Griffith was arrested for Pedestrians Walking in the Roadway, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Felony Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Felony Resisting Arrest, total bond amount $13,500.00.
