Columbia Parks and Recreation's annual Hershey Track and Field event will be held on April 26 at Hickman High School's track. Check-in begins at 9 a.m. with the meet starting at 10 a.m.
This free event is a great introduction to track and field activities for both boys and girls. Participants must be born between 2000 and 2008.
Participants can choose from these events: dashes of 50, 100, 200, 400 meters; runs of 800 and 1600 meters; 4x100 meter relay; standing long jump and softball throw. A 400-meter Fun Run is set for participants between 6 and 8 years of age.
Participants can enter either two track and one field, or two field and one track event. Some events are only available for certain age groups. No track spikes, cleats, or shoes that accept spikes will be allowed. Only soft-soled shoes will be allowed.
Winners of each event (except 400 Meter Fun Run) earn a trip to the Hershey State Meet in Jefferson City at the end of June. Winners at the State Meet have the chance to be chosen with all expenses paid to compete at the Hershey North American Finals meet in Hershey, Pennsylvania in August.
Registration form and a copy of birth certificate/baptismal record should be turned in by 5 p.m. on Thursday, April 24 to the downtown Parks & Recreation office (1 S. 7th St.) or the Armory Sports Center (701 E. Ash St.). Participants may also fax registration forms to 874-7640 or scan and e-mail to [email protected]create new email.
