CORRECTED COMPOST CLASS DATES - Are You Ready to Compost?! Columbia Public Works Solid Waste Division and Volunteer Services announce Saturday Compost Sale Dates and Compost Workshops for 2014

(COLUMBIA, MO) -

Columbia Public Works Solid Waste Division will open on select Saturdays for compost sales to the public. In addition to sales every Thursday from 1:00 to 4:00 PM, compost sales will also occur on the following Saturday's in 2014:

  • April 5
  • May 10
  • June 14
  • September 6
  • October 4

Compost sale location is at 5700 Peabody Road. Directions - From Columbia, go North on Paris Road/Route B to North Brown Station Road to Peabody Road.

For individuals wanting to purchase compost, it is sold in bulk at the city landfill by the cubic yard.  The fee is $12.00 plus tax per cubic yard.  A minimum fee of $12.00 plus tax is required.  Single orders of more than 100 cubic yards/month will be discounted and sold for $8.00 plus tax per cubic yard.  Appointments may be scheduled for loads of 10 cubic yards or more anytime during the week. A loader will be on site to assist while supplies last.

If you have tree limbs, pallets, leaves or grass to dispose of, the compost facility accepts these materials for processing and composting at no charge.

Speaking of composting - Attend a free composting workshop and start composting. Get a free or reduced-price bin at the workshop and fill it with yard waste and food scraps. Put the finished compost around any tree, shrub or grass.

Fall and Spring compost workshops are held at the Capen Park Demonstration Site located off Rock Quarry Road.

Saturday, July 12 10:00 a.m.
Tuesday, August 19 6:00 p.m.
Saturday, September 27 10:00 a.m.
Saturday, October 18 10:00 a.m.
Saturday, November 8 10:00 a.m.
