Columbia Public Works road crews are reporting that at least 95% of residential streets have already been treated with salt as of 4:00pm Sunday, and the remaining areas will be treated by Sunday night. Road crews are still working on some neighborhoods in the southern portions of Columbia, namely Thornbrook and areas along Route K, but all subdistricts are predicted to be treated by the end of the day. Inspectors are being brought in to survey the routes and check for any problem areas, and an 8 person crew will be working tonight to maintain passable conditions on priority routes.
Morning commuters should still use extreme caution on roadways, as some slick areas still exist and allow plenty of extra time for their drive. Dropping temperatures may cause some areas to refreeze overnight, but roadways should still be passable for customers.
Columbia Public Works reported that the salt treatment is working very well on the roadways and customers are seeing a big difference in the driving conditions.
Public Works is tracking the possibility for more precipitation entering the area Monday night and Tuesday and making the necessary preparations.
Customers took to the City's social media pages for updates on road progress and to comment on the roads. A progress map for residential streets is available on www.comosnow.com
