Winter cycling may be challenging, but after learning the basics, scraping a snow-covered windshield will no longer be a part of your daily routine. In an ongoing effort to encourage local residents to consider using bicycles as a mode of transportation, GetAbout Columbia is offering a series of free cycling seminars to help Columbians become confident year-round, two-wheeled commuters. The first of five, free seminars is All Weather Cycling scheduled from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 7 at the Armory Sports Center, 701 E. Ash.
Workshop discussion will include practical tips on the following: weather related apparel and gear, bike handling skills on snowy surfaces, and winter bike maintenance and route planning. Discussion will be led by Gina Overshiner, League of American Bicyclists certified instructor and all weather cyclist. A free gift, bike map and other resources will be provided to all participants. Registration is not required for this class.
Four additional free seminars are scheduled for the following dates:
- Route Planning for Bicycle Commuters, February 25, 6:00 - 7:30 p.m.
- On the Fly Bicycle Repairs, March 4, 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. (registration required)
