Potential Winter Weather May Affect Road Conditions in Various Ways on Friday

(COLUMBIA, MO) -

Winter weather is forecast to return to mid-Missouri and Columbia on Friday. Currently the forecast calls for a mix of winter precipitation starting mid-morning.

Columbia Public Works is prepared to deploy resources as weather conditions warrant.

The latest forecast data, which may change, shows rain and freezing rain developing between 9 and 11 am on Friday. Road surface temperatures will play a big role as to if icing occurs on roadways or not. There may be a transition to all rain between 11 am and 1 PM, and then a quick transition to all snow. Snow accumulations between 1 and 3 inches are forecast for the Columbia area with lighter amounts in southern Boone County and heavier amounts in northern Boone County.

What that information, we are urging motorist to stay turned to the latest forecast to make informed decisions as it relates to travel Friday and Friday night. Conditions may change rapidly. Many may remember the winter event in February of this year when employees and students were sent home after road conditions deteriorated dramatically causing massive traffic issues and hindering snow and ice removal.

Columbia Public Works will post updates related to our snow and ice management operations on our social media sites, via press releases, as well as our new website ComoSnow.com.
