Businesses Beware of Counterfeit 20’s
The Columbia Police Department has taken numerous reports over the past couple of days of counterfeit twenty dollar bills. The counterfeit 20’s have been passed in different businesses at different locations in town. We are asking businesses to take a little more time in checking the security features of U.S. currency to help deter counterfeiting. The security features to the U.S. currency has been in place since the 1990’s. The three most important and easy to check security features on U.S. currency are: the watermark, the security thread, and the color shifting ink. The United States Secret Service website is www.secretservice.gov and it tells you how to detect counterfeit money.
If anyone has any information about subjects who are counterfeiting money or you have received counterfeit money please contact the Columbia Police Department or 875-TIPS (8477) to remain anonymous.
