36th Annual Heritage Festival and Craft Show

(COLUMBIA, MO) -

Visitors will be taken back to the traditions of the past as they "listen, learn and see history come alive" at the 36th Annual Heritage Festival and Craft Show, September 21-22 at the historic Maplewood Farm in Nifong Park. Organized by Columbia Parks and Recreation, this FREE festival runs from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. on both days and features traditional and roots entertainment and artisans and tradesmen dressed in 19th century attire demonstrating their "lost" trades and selling their wares.

Other Festival features this year include a Lewis and Clark Outpost, cowboy chuck wagons, prospector camp where kids can "pan for gold", hayrides and a "Fun For Young'uns" area. Attendees also will enjoy live entertainment including multi-national traditional music, traditional storytellers and returning fest-favorites, the Haskell Indian Nations Dancers and new to-be favorites, Helen Russell & Company from the Ozark Opry. Festival goers will enjoy shopping at over 100 booths for handmade crafts.

Visitors seeking to further the experience also can tour the Historic Maplewood Home (built in 1877) and the historic village with reenactors. A display entitled Missouri's Civil War 1863, commemorating the sesquicentennial of the American Civil War, will be exhibited at the Walters-Boone County Historical Museum.
