SHOOTING AT TEXAS AVENUE AND GARTH AVENUE
On 7/3/13 at 12:35 P.M., officers were dispatched to a shots fired in the area of Texas Avenue and Garth Avenue. The investigation revealed gunfire was exchanged between suspect(s) in two vehicles at that intersection. Officers on scene located 27 shell casings from three different weapons. While officers were on the scene, Joint Communications advised one male victim with a gunshot wound was taken to a local hospital by personal vehicle. Officers located two houses that were damaged by gunfire.
One of the vehicles involved in the shots fired was located near the roundabout at Garth Avenue and Blue Ridge Road. The black sport utility vehicle was left abandoned with bullet holes at that location.
The investigation is ongoing and more information will be released once it is obtained. I do not have a condition on the male victim at this time nor any suspect information.
If anyone has any information about this shooting please contact the Columbia Police Department or Crime Stoppers at (573)875-TIPS.
