Cosmo-Bethel Tennis Courts Set for Resurfacing

(COLUMBIA, MO) -

Columbia Parks and Recreation is planning improvements to the tennis courts at Cosmo-Bethel Park. Starting this week, the 12 tennis courts will be resurfaced in phases.

From now through July 3, courts 1-4 and 5-8 will be closed to the public, but courts 9-12 will be open. From July 7-19, courts 9-12 will be closed for resurfacing, but courts 1-4 and 5-8 will be open.

The work is being done in phases to minimize the impact to park users. Since this type of work is weather dependent, the schedule is subject to change.

The resurfacing project represents a partnership with Columbia Public Schools as four of the 12 courts are on school property. The school district will reimburse the City for the cost of resurfacing those four courts. Funding for resurfacing the other eight courts comes from the Park Sales Tax, which was approved by voters in 2010.

In addition to benefiting the general public, the tennis court improvements are expected to allow the University of Missouri to host the 2014 SEC Tennis Championships, bringing out-of-town visitors to Columbia and stimulating the local economy.
