COLUMBIA POLICE DEPARTMENT RELEASES RESULTS OF ALCOHOL ENFORCEMENT
During the enhanced weekend enforcement of May 17-19, 2013, the Columbia Police Department worked overtime focusing their efforts on removing intoxicated drivers from our roadways. During the enforcement period, the Columbia Police Department arrested 7 intoxicated drivers.
On the night of Saturday, May 18, 2013 the Columbia Police Department and the Boone County Sheriff's Department conducted a sobriety checkpoint at Rock Quarry Road near Capen Park. The check point began before midnight and concluded at approximately 2:50 A.M. on May 19, 2013. During the check point, 221 motorists were contacted. The following arrests were made:
2 Driving While Intoxicated1 felony drug distribution
2 Misdemeanor Possession of Controlled Substance (marijuana)
1 Summons for Driving While Suspended
1 Non-hazardous moving violation summons
5 additional arrests for Driving While Intoxicated were made by patrol during the saturation period
This enforcement period was very successful in removing many unsafe drivers from our roadways. This check point was funded by a grant from the Missouri Department of Transportation-Traffic & Highway Safety Division.
