THE COLUMBIA POLICE DEPARTMENT STEP UP SEAT BELT ENFORCEMENT ON THE "CLICK IT OR TICKET" STATEWIDE CAMPAIGN
The Columbia Police Department will be joining efforts with statewide law enforcement May 20 - June 2, 2013 for an aggressive "Click It or Ticket" mobilization to get more motorists to buckle up and save more lives.
In 2012, Missouri witnessed a modest increase in traffic fatalities, moving to 829 compared to 786 in 2011. This is the first time in six years Missouri had an increase in the number of people killed in traffic crashes. Even more disheartening, 70.6% of the people killed were unbuckled. In 2012 in Columbia, three of our five fatal crashes involved an occupant that was not wearing a seat belt and all three were ejected from the vehicle. Officers will be out in force to remind motorist seat belts can and do save lives. The overtime will be paid for by a grant funded by the Missouri Department Traffic & Highway Safety Division.
Buckle Up and Arrive Alive. For information on Missouri seatbelt usage, visit www.saveMOlives.com.
