Boys and girls will have the chance to get an early start in track and field through Columbia Parks and Recreation's annual Hershey Track and Field event. It will be held on April 28 at Hickman High School's track. Check-in begins at 2 p.m. with the meet starting at 3 p.m.
This free event is a great introduction to track and field activities. Participants must be born between 1998 and 2003.
Events will include dashes of 50, 100, 200, 400 meters; runs of 800 and 1600 meters; 4x100 meter relay; standing long jump and softball throw. Participants can enter either two track and one field, or two field and one track event. Some events are only available for certain age groups. No track spikes, cleats, or shoes that accept spikes will be allowed.
Local winners will be eligible for the state meet in Jefferson City and then some regional winners will earn the opportunity to advance to the finals in Hershey, Pennsylvania.
Registration forms and a copy of a birth certificate/baptismal record should be turned in to the Parks and Recreation office at #1 S. 7th St or the Armory Sports Center at 701 East Ash.
For more information, call Parks and Recreation at 874-7460.
