On 3/28/13 at 5:26 P.M., officers were dispatched to the 2600 block of Quail Drive in reference to a disturbance between two black males. Prior to officers arrival on the scene, Joint Communications advised two shots were fired and the suspect fled the scene on foot heading eastbound towards Highway 63. Officers set up a perimeter and a K9 was called in for a track on the suspect.
During the K9 track, the suspect was seen crossing Hwy 63 north of Home Depot. After a short foot pursuit the suspect, James O. Johnson, 45, was taken into custody for Assault in the first degree with a to be set bond, armed criminal action, possession of stolen firearm and felon in possession of firearm.
Officers working the scene of the disturbance were given consent to search the apartment by the suspect's girlfriend to look for weapons. On the kitchen floor in plain view officers located a .22 pistol along with two other loaded weapons inside the residence. The pistol used in the shooting was located in a neighboring building were witnesses described seeing the suspects girlfriend take a coat to that building. The pistol used in the shooting was was found to be stolen out of Colorado. Brittany J. Thurston, 26, was taken into custody for tampering wtih physical evidence.
There was no one injured or property damaged during the incident.
