Columbia Public Works has a full crew out this morning plowing roadways. Crews can on at 5:00 am and we will be on 1st and 2nd priority roads until further notice. Due to forecast amounts and rates of snowfall, we have other departments such as Water and Light and Parks and Recreation crews on standby to assist with snow clearing neighborhood streets.
With thundersnow falling at a rapid rate, plows will likely not be able to keep up against the heavy snowfall so crews from other departments will likely not be used until snowfall tapers off and plows can get ahead.
With forecasters still forecaster 6-10 inches of snow and also saying winds will cause blowing snow and greatly reduced visibility today - we are asking motorist to please stay off the roads to allow plows and emergency services to do their job effectively.
Ways our customers can help us clear roadways -
- Move cars off the street
- Stay off the roads
- Shovel snow to the right of your driveway
We'll issue additional updates throughout the day. You can also follow updates on our Facebook and Twitter accounts.
