Traffic Unit Increasing Enforcement On I-70 For Spring Break

(COLUMBIA, MO) -

TRAFFIC UNIT INCREASING ENFORCEMENT ON I-70 FOR SPRING BREAK

The Columbia Police Department Traffic Unit will increase enforcement on I-70 during spring break to reduce traffic crashes.  During last year spring break, I-70 had the most crashes of any roadway in the City of Columbia.  The traffic unit is expecting increased traffic on the roadways and the overtime will be paid through a grant provided by the Missouri Department of Transportation Highway Safety Division.

Spring Break Traffic Safety Tips:

1.) Find what is happening on roadways before and while you are traveling by checking with the Missouri Department of Transportation website: www.highwayconditions.com/mo

2.) Don't be distracted - only use your cellphone in emergencies and no texting while driving

3.) Wear your seat belt

4.) Never drink and drive

5.) Don't follow to close give yourself plenty of space between your vehicle and the vehicle you are following in case you have to stop quickly.

6.) Follow the posted speed limit
